Abiona Redwood, MD

Dr. Abiona Redwood is Core Faculty of the Family Medicine Residency Program at Community Health of South Florida, Inc. (CHI) Brodes H. Hartley Jr. Teaching Health Center.

She wears many leadership hats in her role. She is responsible for the education and training of residents, medical students and allied health professionals through the implementation of a curriculum that addresses ACGME’s core competencies.

Dr. Redwood has worked on multiple quality improvement projects with CHI residents including how to address medication adherence as well as patient safety and improvement.

Dr. Redwood is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. She then moved to Miami and completed her Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Residency at the University of Miami Hospital/Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she was a Resident Clinic Director.

Dr. Mudon

Kelly Mudon, DO

Dr. Mudon is a physician specializing in family medicine and working as a member of the core faculty at the CHI’s Brodes H. Hartley, Jr. Teaching Health Center. Dr. Mudon earned a B.A. in Cognitive Neuroscience and Spanish from the University of Denver and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Science Education from Lehman College. Dr. Mudon is also a graduate of A.T. Still University: Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is the recipient of the Doris Ison Award for being involved in several health fairs, and outreach activities demonstrating a strong interest in the THC mission at Community Health of South Florida, Inc. She graduated as Chief Resident of the Family Medicine residency program in 2020.

Dr. Mudon was born with a rare metabolic condition known as Phenylketonuria. She grew up in a rural community in Western Colorado, and much of her healthcare as a child was available only by traveling halfway across the state to Denver. From a very young age, she learned the critical importance of providing healthcare to rural and underserved communities. Serving communities and providing compassionate and quality care have been her lifelong calling as a physician.

Dr. Mudon has lived in South Florida for several years, and she especially loves Miami’s amazing cuisine and cortaditos. She also enjoys traveling home to her family during Colorado’s snowy winters, cooking at home and binge-watching BBC series.

Dr.Cooreman

Glenn Cooreman, DO

Dr. Glenn Cooreman is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency at Larkin Community Hospital and performed his hours at the CHI South Miami Health Center. Dr. Cooreman was born in Miami, Florida where he spent the majority of his life. After completing high school, he decided to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Air Force.

He served a total of eight years in the military and completed 2 overseas tours in Iraq and Qatar. While stateside, he lived in Las Vegas, NV; Wichita Falls, TX; and Washington, DC. While stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, he completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, after which he returned to Miami to begin medical school. Dr. Cooreman provides a comfortable, inviting, and patient-centered atmosphere. He believes in helping patients feel like part of the family and works tirelessly to provide the best care possible. Professional affiliations include the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians. With a lifelong fondness for animals, he enjoys spending his time off with his dogs. When he is not studying, Dr. Cooreman enjoys traveling, exploring the outdoors and exercising.

Katleen Thermezy Etienne, APRN, FNP-BC

Kathleen Thermezy Etienne is a family nurse practitioner from the first cohort of Foreign-Educated Physicians to Bachelor in Nursing Sciences to Masters in Nursing Sciences program at Florida International University. She was a physician in her native country, Haiti, where she graduated in 1987 and completed her residency in surgery from 1988 to 1992.

After working a few years in Haiti as a surgeon in private practice, she became a volunteer practitioner in community programs and was responsible for the Emergency Medical Services at the World Health Organization. She completed a fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in France from 1996 to 1993. After, she went back to her country where she continued her practice until 2008 when she immigrated to the United States with her family.

In August 2010, she started the Nursing curriculum at FIU. She obtained her BSN/RN in 2012 and her MSN/FNP-BC in 2013. In January 2014, she joined CHI as a primary care provider and is at the same time a candidate for the Doctorate in Nursing Practice at FIU.

In her free time she enjoys reading, listening to music and traveling.

Dr. Martha Perez

Martha R. Perez, MD

Dr. Martha R. Perez is a General Practitioner in the Family Medicine Unit at CHI’s Doris Ison Health Center.

Born in Leon, Nicaragua, she earned her medical degree from the National University of Nicaragua in 1984. From 1984-1986, Dr. Perez worked as a medical provider and director of the Francisco Buitrago Health Center in Managua, Nicaragua. In 1986, she moved to the United States and settled in Miami.

She successfully completed a comprehensive medical review course in 1990 at the University of Miami. In 1992, she received her license as a physician assistant and, in 1994, began working at Community Health of South Florida Inc. Dr. Perez was awarded her medical license in 2000.

She enjoys time with her family, participating in community events, traveling abroad, and keeping healthy and fit with exercise.

Dr. Elizabeth Philippe

Elizabeth Philippe, MD

Dr. Elizabeth Philippe is CHI’s Chief of Family Medicine and the Designated Institutional Official. She is also the Program Director of Family Medicine Residency for The Brodes H. Hartley Jr. Teaching Health Center.

Dr. Philippe got hooked on helping people in underserved communities after graduating from the State University Medical School of Haiti in 1984. She discovered this passion when she was completing a one-year requirement in a disadvantaged area in Haiti. To further her goals, she pursued her studies at Yale University where she obtained a master’s degree in public health in 1986.

After working for a short period of time at the New York State Department of Health, Dr. Philippe returned to Haiti in 1987 to work as the Medical Director in the Albert Schweitzer Hospital’s Community Health Department.

In 1990, she served as the National Coordinator for the Haitian Ministry of Public Health’s Maternal and Child Health Program. Soon after, she joined the World Health Organization/Pan American Health Organization and was actively involved with its national immunization program.

In 1995, Dr. Philippe returned to the United States and enrolled at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine as a fellow in a National Institute on Drug Abuse-sponsored program in epidemiology and prevention of substance abuse. Following graduation, she was accepted as a resident in the family medicine program at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1999. A board-certified family medicine practitioner, Dr. Philippe completed her residency training in 2002 and then worked as an attending physician and preceptor at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

In 2005, she joined CHI as an attending physician and as the medical director for its school-based health program. She is fluent in English, French and Creole, with proficiency in Spanish. Dr. Philippe enjoys her work as a provider at CHI where she can work with underserved communities and different ethnic groups. She has an interest in HIV/AIDS and youth development programs.

She enjoys reading, classical guitar music, and community activities.

Dr. Edgard Nunez

Edgard Nuñez, MD

Dr. Edgard Nuñez is the Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Community Health of South Florida Inc. He has been a family medicine provider at CHI since 2002. Dr. Nuñez is responsible for oversight of satellite service providers as well as provider recruitment and retention.

Born in Managua, Nicaragua, his motivations to become a physician stem from his early childhood experiences when he admired the passion for medicine from his family doctor in his hometown of Corinto, Nicaragua. Dr. Nuñez earned his doctorate of medicine and surgery degree from the Universidad Autonoma of Honduras in 1983. A few years later, Dr. Nuñez immigrated to the United States where he continued his journey as a physician. He completed his residency in family medicine at the Texas Tech University Health of Science Center. Dr. Nuñez is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Florida Academy of Family Physicians and Nicaraguan American Medical Association. Fluent in Spanish and English, he is often a CHI spokesman for international and national news coverage on community health care and the migrant and Hispanic population.

An enthusiastic fan of boxing, basketball, soccer and baseball, Dr. Nuñez also enjoys theater and cinema.

Dr. Linda Zambrana

Linda Zambrana, MD

Dr. Linda Zambrana is the medical director for the Martin Luther King/Clinica Campesina Health Center. The family medicine doctor has been with CHI since 2003. She is passionate about caring for her patients and helping them live their best lives. Although she was born in the United States, she received her medical degree in 1988 from the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua.

A year later, she returned to the United States in order to continue her passion for working in the medical field. She passed the examinations required to work as a registered medical sonographer in 1992 and became a physician assistant in 1993.

Dr. Zambrana provided medical care to patients as a physician assistant until June 2000. By then, she had already completed all the tests required to practice medicine in the United States. This allowed her to start residency training to become a board-certified family medicine physician.

After graduating in 2003, she became part of the medical team at Community Health of South Florida Inc. Since then, Dr. Zambrana has been working joyfully providing what she likes the most: helping patients from different cultures to be healthy and giving them the extra mile on medical and emotional support.

Gregory Fignole

Gregory Fignole, APRN

Gregory Fignole is an ARNP in Family Medicine at Community Health of South Florida Inc.’s Martin Luther King Jr. Clinica Campesina. He graduated from Florida International University in 2014 as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Prior to that, in 2006 he graduated from Notre Dame University School of Medicine in Haiti.

After completing a required year of work in an underserved area of Haiti, in 2007 he moved to the United States. Here, he attended the American Medical Academy in Miami in 2008 where he earned a degree in Emergency Medical Services.

Fignole worked for five years as an emergency room technician at Kendall Regional Medical Center and Homestead Baptist Hospital. Later, after obtaining his nursing degree at Florida International University, he worked at Westchester General Hospital until the summer of 2014. He then joined MedXM, an insurance company that does Health Risk Assessments.

He is always willing to make a positive impact on the health education of the community, especially the Haitian community. So after completing some of his clinical hours at CHI, he decided to join the team in March 2015 to work as a provider in family medicine.

Fignole’s spare time is spent reading, spending time with his family, going to church and traveling.

Dr. Edwin Bosa-Osorio

Edwin Bosa-Osorio, MD

Dr. Edwin Bosa-Osorio is a faculty member in the Family Practice Program at The Brodes H. Hartley Jr. Teaching Health Center at CHI. Board-certified as a Family Physician by the American Board of Family Medicine, he joined CHI’s Coconut Grove Health Center in 2013.

Dr. Bosa-Osorio, who has a friendly and humorous bedside manner, is passionate about caring for patients of any age and condition.

Born and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico, he moved to the Big Apple to attend New York University. But missing the warm climate, he transferred to the University of Miami (UM) where he not only graduated with a bachelor’s degree but earned his medical degree from the UM School of Medicine in 1983.

He continued as a Hurricane by completing his residency program in 1986 in the Department of Family Medicine. He couldn’t get away from UM, having taught as an associate professor in both academic and clinical positions. He also held several positions while tenured at the Jessie Trice Community Health Center, including the Chief Medical Officer of Clinical Affairs.

Dr. Bosa-Osorio’s hobbies and special interests include basketball, landscaping and handyman work.
