Guess who doesn’t have health insurance in America?
No, it’s just not the unemployed! Surprisingly, the majority of those without health insurance are hard-working men and women who either are self-employed, work for a small business or a large corporation that can’t afford to provide health insurance coverage to its employees or the worker cannot afford the high premiums to cover their families. The statistics tell the story of the more than 45 million Americans without health insurance, 80% are from working families, and they earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford health insurance for their families. CHI is the only health care organization providing comprehensive primary and behavioral health care services to the uninsured and underinsured population of South Miami-Dade County. CHI is part of a national network of Community Health Centers that provide quality primary health and behavioral health care to residents in their communities.
