Dr. Josya-Gony Charles Laurent is a Board-certified Family Physician. She joined CHI Martin Luther King Jr. Clinical Campesina in the spring of 2023.

In her quest for knowledge, Dr. Charles Laurent obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Science from Barry University. Thereafter, she returned to her hometown of Philadelphia to attend Drexel University College of Medicine and remained in the area to complete her residency in Family Medicine at Abington Memorial Hospital.

Having enjoyed the taste of warm weather from her earlier studies in Miami, she moved back to the area after residency to take an assistant professor faculty position at the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. For several years, she taught medical students and accompanied them on house visits. She maintained a community faculty position with FIU HWCOM as she traveled the country for a few years as a hospitalist for rurally underserved hospitals.

Dr. Charles Laurent is also active in international missions, notably in her family homeland of Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Honduras. During these trips she served in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Her personal mission is to positively impact the lives of others so that they too will influence others and create a ripple effect of more love in the world.

Dr. Charles Laurent’s interests include traveling, attending cultural celebrations like Carnival, running and spending time with her husband and son.
