Welcome to The Brodes Hartley Jr. Teaching Health Center at Community Health of South Florida, Inc. We are proud to be the first-ever teaching health center at a community health center in the State of Florida.
Our vision to become an educational institution of excellence is now realized. The program supports the expansion of medical training in family medicine practice and psychiatry in a community-ambulatory setting.
This is important and exciting news for CHI. Our mission is to provide affordable quality primary and behavioral health care services to all residents in rapidly growing South Florida. The Brodes H. Hartley Jr. Teaching Health Center at CHI brings a higher level of quality to our organization that has been growing by leaps and bounds over the past 50 years. From its humble beginnings of providing urgent care in trailers to primarily indigent and migrant workers, CHI now provides a wide range of health care to patients from diverse populations, both uninsured and insured.
The teaching health center is one of our most coveted resources at Community Health of South Florida, Inc. We take great pride in training the next generation of physicians. It is important for us to develop doctors who are passionate about working in community health settings and this program helps us to create a pipeline of physicians eager to do so.

The teaching health center is one of our most coveted resources at Community Health of South Florida, Inc. We take great pride in training the next generation of physicians. It is important for us to develop doctors who are passionate about working in community health settings and this program helps us to create a pipeline of physicians eager to do so.
We are invested in growing the Brodes H. Hartley, Jr. Teaching Health Center Program and have many enhancements and expansions planned for the coming years.
Our residents have also done a lot to enhance the quality of care that we deliver. Their research projects have led to significant improvements and the care that they provide in our residency clinic, our crisis unit and in the community is helping to save lives. We believe our residents’ experience here at CHI is unique. Our demographic of patients is vast and includes people from different countries, different cultures and different socioeconomic statuses. As a resident, you will see a variety of illnesses that you wouldn’t typically see. You will learn the value to community-based healthcare and the importance of social determinants of health. You will see an integration of disciplines such as behavioral health and family medicine working in tandem to care for patients. But your experiences will continue beyond the walls of our health centers. You will have the opportunity to work out of our mobile medical van and treat the homeless and those in public housing. You will also have strong hospital rotations.
Our residents learn about the federally qualified health center movement and its importance to public health. We believe in creating strong advocates for community health and as such some of our residents have gone to Washington, D.C. to lobby for it.
We believe our residents are our future. It is important to the leadership team that your residency experience is successful, insightful and supportive.
There are several key ingredients to a great residency program: a committed and talented faculty, a leadership team that is devoted to ensuring the program is sustainable and a wide breath of exposure and experience for the residents. I am proud to tell you that here at the Brodes H. Hartley Jr. Teaching Health Center, all of those elements help to train and develop exceptional physicians.
